Product Design

Redesigning a complex data platform for clarity

Reworked the core workflows of a dense, data-heavy platform — cutting errors and making the complex feel calm.

Overview

Power users lived in this product all day, but the interface fought them: dense tables, ambiguous states, and destructive actions that were too easy to trigger. The goal was clarity under density — not fewer features, but a calmer surface.

Role & contribution

I led the redesign of the platform’s most-used workflows, owning research synthesis, interaction design, and the production-ready specs that engineering built against.

Approach

I mapped the real task flow against the interface and found the friction clustered at three decision points. Each one became a focused redesign with a measurable hypothesis.

01Ingest
02Validate
03Resolve errors
04Publish
Where the friction lived in the core workflow.

I used to keep a checklist next to my screen. Now the product is the checklist.

TODO — user research quote
Before / after
TODO — replace with a before/after of the redesigned validation flow.

Outcome / impact

The redesigned validation step caught errors earlier and explained them in place, which removed the largest source of rework.

Reflection

Density isn’t the enemy — ambiguity is. The biggest wins came from making state and consequence legible, not from removing information.
